Presentation Summary:

About the challenge to connect different study programmes in the fields of art, design and technology together for establishing a high quality game education.

Paper Abstract:

Games development demands highly specialised talents with well-founded knowledge, who are able to working together in interdisciplinary and most intercultural teams. More over they must  be driven by passion for creating games. The presentation focus on the challenge to connect different study programmes in the fields of Art, Design and Technology together for establishing a high quality game education at the HTW Berlin. There are two kind of programs. The Interaction Design/Game Design (Bachelor) and the Game Technology & Interactive System (Master) are full game programs. Beside this students from other program  (Business, Computing Science, Communication Design, ...)  can select courses available in the game  programs.

The connection of the programs is based on following foundations:
    * setting up facilities for cooperate workspaces
    * giving students access to high-technology labs (motion capture, laser scanner, software & game engines)
    * training for specific knowledge set and skills in the fields of game technology, game design, game art and business
    * program independent practical & research projects
    * bring together different skills in workgroups
    * portfolio-oriented education
The presentation gives an insight view how these purposes and objectives are supported through the gameslab (competence centre for play and games) with a specific infrastructure for developing digital games and play.
