Presentation Summary:This talk will look at the role and responsibilities of the modern Game Director and look into the education of Game Directors, as we do it at the National Academy of Interactive Digital Entertainment in Denmark (DADIU ) Paper Abstract:Creating a game without losing focus is difficult. Today, many of the larger game productions have what we call a Game Director – a person dedicated to carrying the vision and the creative content of the game. But even on smaller productions it is important to assign this role to a qualified person. In the industry, Game Directors are often recruited internally by promoting someone with creative flair, but what skills and crafts are actually needed to become a good Game Director? At the National Academy of Interactive Digital Entertainment in Denmark (DADIU) together with the National Film School of Denmark we are educating students in the art and science of Game Directing. Aspiring Game Directors must learn the difficult task of guiding a game development team from the initial idea to a finished, focused game. This talk will look at the role and responsibilities of the modern Game Director and look into the education of Game Directors, as we do it at DADIU. |
